Tension headache relief

tension headache

About 70% of all headaches are tension headaches, they are called tension headaches because they result from excess tension of the neck and shoulder muscles. This type of headache is often easy to diagnose, because the muscles at the back of the neck are exceptionally rigid. Anything that causes a person involuntarily to tighten the muscles of the neck can produce a headache. Long hours of uninterrupted driving can do it, as well as intense concentration-such as watching television or reading a book. Read about common headaches here
Usually, of course, it is the emotional stress of our daily lives that causes us to yogabecome tense. Sometimes a gentle massage of the muscles helps to relieve the tension, warm compresses also help. Aspirin relieves some of the pain, but usually not all. Muscle- stretching exercises such as those practiced in yoga can often bring at least temporary relief, but yoga exercises must be done gently to prevent damaging a muscle.
